What do i need to complete my trademark application?
This week, I am going to walk you step-by-step through a checklist of things you ABSOLUTELY need to complete your trademark application.
I’ve also provided a FREE mini-class here talking about 5 reasons your trademark may be rejected. This week was full of knowledge, so let's get into it!
Here's what you need:
Your Personal Information- In order to complete your application, your trademark attorney must have basic information such as your LEGAL name, address, city and state.
Your Business Information - Your trademark lawyer also needs the information for your legally registered business, such as the address, website, social media pages and state of business. If the owner is an organization, such as a registered LLC or nonprofit, then you will have to provide information about its formation.
Information about the trademark - Your trademark lawyer should spend time getting ALL THE DETAILS about the mark that you are interested in registering. Will this be a word(s) only, or does it have an image that needs to be included? Does the image have specific colors that have a certain meaning? Does your image need consent from another person? How long have you been using the trademark? How will you use it to sell goods and services in the US?
If you are filing a trademark and the attorney has not gone over these questions, that’s a red flag!!!
Evidence of your trademark in use aka “Specimens” in the legal word. If your mark is already in use, then your attorney will need to attach images of it being used in your business for services and on your products.
